Multitude: A Non-Representational Art

Title: Multitude
Charcoal on Paper
(non-representational)
Artist Statement:
This work is titled as multitude for it is hectic. I made this texture from smudging and blending the colors to only a vertical stroke. The colors used were yellows, white, umber, greys, browns, and black while its measurements are 8.25x11.75 inches (A4 paper).

I made this piece to mimic a feeling that all of us had soon crave and need to encounter in the current environment. Not only are we going through a pandemic but isolation as well. The art shown above wants to signify closeness and connection even through a chaotic period of time.

Seeing this output may show no representation towards anything and may just be taken as smudges of colors thrown on into a blank canvas. But as an artist, colors show great expression and feeling. The strokes as well help put the piece together so that viewers of this art will draw their eyes only in a single direction intaking it with a very direct perspective.

Furthermore, this concept truly does not hold any form and or shape but rather wants to mimic a feeling towards viewers. As an artist, I want to let viewers express themselves without a clear point of view as to what this is supposed to signify so they may connect to the piece with their own individuality, past, and characteristics.
